Black on White

Watercolour and watercolour pencil- 6-8 hours?

This equine painting started out as an experiment but I grew rather attached to it! I messed up a few things, I didn’t intend to have snow in the background, but I dropped my paintbrush and needed to cover up the splatters :/. Also – it’s on bristol board instead of watercolour paper. Yes, I know. Amateur hour over here.

But I persevered because I liked the lines and I reckoned it might just all be worth it! I have also rekindled my love of the watercolour pencil. Between the ages of about 12 and 15 I was a prolific producer of watercolour pencil horses, all on pages torn from my school art sketchbook. I must have made about 50, all colours, shapes and sizes! Perhaps I have opened a can of worms here…

Beautiful reference photo from here.
